La dolce maniera is a vocal ensemble specialising in the interpretation of 17th- and 21th- century music. The group is in permanent residence Académie Supérieure de Musique in Strasbourg, where Luigi Gaggero (musical director) and Silvana Torto (soprano) teach.
The name of the ensemble has a double meaning, explaining its aesthetic program: on one side, a constant searching for the “soft, lovely manner”, along with careful attention to the prosody, as well as the splendor, of the Italian poetry; on the other, the representation of the “well-loved mannerism”, exploring its lights and darks, its living colors and theatricality, characteristics of a large part of 16th- and 17th-century Italian music.
Another characteristic of La dolce maniera is their use of scores retranscribed for the occasion - this, while respecting the details of the original manuscripts, proposes an innovative metric organisation. Giving particular importance to these rhythmic and contrapuntal aspects contributes to a fresh and lively interpretation of this music.
The qualities of the young ensemble have brought LDM to perform in important European Festivals and have inspired composers such Ambrosini, Antignani, Gervasoni, Maestri, Politano, Solbiati and Yeznikian to write and dedicated pieces for the ensemble.
LDM has published for the Italian label Stradivarius Monteverdis 4th book of Madrigals which has been acclaimed by the critic.
